Film Review Two-Spirit: A Trans Woman’s Struggle for Acceptance (The New Yorker)
This short, 15-minute film documents Georgina, an Indigenous trans woman of the Wyuu community in Colombia. The film shines a light on the overlapping issues of poverty, sexism and transphobia in Georgina's life. Hauntingly yet heartwarmingly, Georgina continues to treat people with love as her means of survival. This is an intimate look into a life that seems quite different from what many of us experience. After watching this, I was left thinking about my privileges, including being a gay white man in a developed country. I believe LGBTQ+ worldwide rights are a priority cause to pursue. Enjoy! Please let me know what you think.
